Garden Maintenance in Melbourne's South-East

Practical garden maintenance for homeowners who want their outdoor areas cleaned up, maintained and kept under control.

Freshly mulched garden bed with new plants after garden maintenance in Harkaway

Neighbourhood Lawn Care is a lawn and garden maintenance business. Most people find us for mowing, then ask whether we can look after the beds, hedges and weeds too — and the answer is yes. Garden work is a real part of what we do week to week across Hallam, Berwick, Harkaway, Narre Warren, Hampton Park and the surrounding south-east.

We offer one-off garden cleanups for gardens that have got away from you, as well as ongoing maintenance programs for people who want things kept tidy without thinking about it. Either way it's quoted before we start, so you know what the work costs.

Weed removal & weed control

We physically remove weeds from garden beds, lawn edges, cracks in paths and driveways, and anywhere else they're not wanted. Where it suits the situation we can also use appropriate weed-control treatment — we'll tell you which approach makes sense for each area.

Weeds are persistent, and no honest gardener will promise they'll never come back. What we can do is get on top of them properly and, on a regular visit, keep them from re-establishing. More detail on our weed control service page.

Garden bed cleanup

  • Removing unwanted weeds and vegetation from beds
  • Clearing out overgrown or neglected garden beds
  • Tidying bed edges so the lines look sharp again
  • Removing green waste as part of the job
  • Preparing beds ready for mulch, plants or a fresh start

Mulching

  • Preparing the garden bed before any mulch goes down
  • Removing weeds first so the mulch actually helps
  • Adding topsoil where it's appropriate
  • Supplying and applying mulch, or spreading what you've had delivered
  • Cleaning surrounding areas once the beds are done

Planting

  • Preparing the garden bed for new plants
  • Adding topsoil where appropriate
  • Planting new plants — filling bare beds or replacing what's died off
  • Tidying the area once planting is done
  • Mulching over the top where requested

Hedge trimming

We provide hedge trimming and shaping for suitable residential hedges, bushes and shrubs — boundary hedges, screening plants, front-yard hedges and the like. Every trim includes cleanup of the clippings, and removal of trimmings is covered in the quote. See our hedge trimming page for more.

Small tree & shrub pruning

We can handle suitable small residential trees and shrubs where the work is appropriate for our equipment, experience and safety setup — low branches over paths, growth scraping fences, shrubs crowding beds.

We're not arborists, and we don't take on large, dangerous or complex tree work. If your job needs one, we'll tell you honestly. More on our small tree pruning page.

Lawn maintenance

The lawn is usually the other half of the job. Mowing, edging and regular lawn maintenance run alongside the garden work — most of our regular customers have both done on the same visit, which keeps the whole yard consistent and keeps the cost down. See our lawn mowing and lawn maintenance pages for how visits work.

One-off garden cleanup or regular maintenance

One-off garden cleanup: for gardens that have become overgrown, weedy or neglected and need to be brought back under control. This is the reset — clearing, weeding, cutting back and taking the waste away.

Regular garden maintenance: for homeowners who want the garden kept tidy throughout the year. Depending on the property and what you want done, that can be a weekly, fortnightly or monthly visit. We don't push a schedule on you — we look at the garden and agree on what makes sense.

Garden care through the year

What a garden needs changes with the seasons, so maintenance visits change too. As a general guide:

  • Spring — weed removal, garden-bed cleanup, planting, mulching and a general tidy-up as growth takes off
  • Summer — regular mowing, weed management, hedge and shrub trimming, and keeping on top of garden maintenance
  • Autumn — leaf cleanup, garden-bed maintenance, pruning where appropriate and mulching before winter
  • Winter — general garden maintenance, pruning where appropriate, weed management and preparation for spring

Getting a garden maintenance quote

Tell us the suburb and what's bothering you — weeds, an overgrown bed, hedges that need cutting back. Photos help a lot; you can attach up to three to the quote form. We'll come back with a price before any work starts, and if we need to see the garden in person first, we'll say so.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do one-off garden work, or only regular maintenance?
Both. One-off cleanups are common — rental inspections, open homes, gardens that have got away over winter. Regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly visits suit people who want it kept tidy ongoing.
Will the weeds come back after you remove them?
Some will — that's gardening, and anyone guaranteeing otherwise isn't being straight with you. Regular follow-up visits and mulching are what keep them under control long-term.
Can you handle large trees?
No. We prune small trees and low branches that can be reached safely from the ground. Large, high-risk or complex tree work needs an arborist, and we'll tell you if that's what your job needs.
Do you take the green waste away?
Yes, green-waste removal can be included and is covered in the quote, so there are no surprises afterwards.
Can garden work be added to my regular mowing visit?
Yes — that's how a lot of our regular customers run it. Weeding, bed tidying and hedge trims get folded into the same visit as the mow.
