How Much Does Lawn Mowing Cost in Melbourne?
Indicative price ranges for lawn mowing in Melbourne's south-east, and an honest explanation of what moves the number up or down.
Most homeowners want a number before they pick up the phone. As a guide, a small lawn is commonly around $50–$100, a medium suburban lawn around $100–$200 or more, and a large lawn from $200 depending on the property. An overgrown lawn is a different job again and is quoted on its condition.
Prices vary because lawns vary. Size is only one part of it — grass height, how long it's been since the last cut, how much edging there is, obstacles, access, slope, the amount of cleanup and whether green waste needs removing all change how long a job takes and what it costs.
These are indicative guide ranges only, not guaranteed quotes. Two lawns of the same size can price differently, so we don't pretend every small lawn or every medium lawn costs the same. We give you a firm price before any work starts.

Typical lawn mowing price guide
Use this as a starting point rather than a price list. Lawn area alone doesn't determine the final price.
Small lawn
Approximately $50–$100
Courtyards, units and compact front yards. Easy access and a lawn that's been kept on top of sit at the lower end.
Medium lawn
Approximately $100–$200+
Typical suburban front and back lawn. Edging, obstacles, gate access and how long it's been since the last cut all move the price.
Large lawn
$200+
Bigger blocks and lifestyle properties. Priced on the actual area, terrain and how much trimming and tidying is involved.
Overgrown lawn
Quoted based on condition and required work
Grass height and density, number of passes, cleanup and green-waste handling matter more than lawn size alone.
Indicative guide ranges only — not a guaranteed quote. We run push and self-propelled mowers, line trimmers, edgers and blowers. We don't currently run a ride-on mower, so for very large blocks we'll be upfront about whether we're the right fit before quoting.

Why does lawn mowing cost more sometimes?
Lawn size
The bigger the area, the longer it takes — but area on its own doesn't set the price. A small, tightly landscaped yard with lots of edging can take as long as a bigger open lawn.
Grass height and density
Long, thick grass is slower to cut and produces far more clippings. Dense growth can mean the mower has to work in shorter passes, which adds time.
How long it's been since the last mow
A lawn cut a fortnight ago is a straightforward job. A lawn that hasn't been touched for a couple of months is a different piece of work, and it's priced that way.
Edging and trimming
Driveways, paths, fence lines and garden beds all need trimming or edging to make a lawn look finished. The more linear metres of edge a property has, the more time it takes.
Obstacles and access
Trampolines, play equipment, garden furniture, pots, narrow side gates and steps all slow a job down. If gear has to be carried a long way from the street, that counts too.
Sloping or difficult terrain
Slopes, uneven ground and soft or boggy patches are slower and require more care than flat, even lawn.
Amount of cleanup required
Blowing down paths and driveways is part of finishing a mow. Where there are heavy clippings, leaf litter or debris across the property, cleanup becomes a bigger part of the visit.
Green-waste removal
Green waste handling depends on the job. On a regular mow, clippings usually go into your green bin. For cleanups and overgrown lawns there is often more waste than a bin can take, so removal is quoted separately — we'll agree on it with you before we start.
One-off versus regular maintenance
A lawn on a regular schedule is generally in a known, manageable condition each visit. A one-off booking is quoted on whatever condition the lawn is in on the day, which can be anything from tidy to badly overgrown.
Extra garden work requested
Hedge shaping, weeding, garden-bed clearing or a cleanup are separate pieces of work. If you'd like them done at the same visit we'll quote them alongside the mow so you can see what each part costs.
One-off versus regular lawn mowing
A one-off mow suits a lawn that's become untidy, a property being prepared for sale or inspection, or a household that just wants a single tidy-up. It's quoted on the condition of the lawn on the day.
Regular maintenance is an agreed rhythm — weekly, fortnightly or another interval that suits the lawn and the season. A lawn kept on a schedule is generally in a known, manageable condition each visit, so it doesn't build into the heavier cleanup that a neglected lawn eventually needs.
That doesn't automatically make every regular visit cheaper than every one-off. What it does mean is fewer surprises. Customers on a weekly maintenance plan receive 10% off for as long as they stay on the plan.
You can compare intervals on our lawn and garden maintenance plans page, or read what's covered on the lawn mowing service page.
How much does an overgrown lawn cost?
An overgrown lawn shouldn't be priced like a normal maintenance mow. Where a maintenance visit takes the top off grass that's already close to the right height, a neglected lawn often has to be brought down in stages, and the volume of clippings can be many times greater.
Very long grass may need a different approach altogether — a first cut at a higher setting, then a second pass once the bulk is removed. That protects both the equipment and the lawn underneath.
- How tall the grass is, and how dense it has grown
- The area that needs cutting
- How many passes are needed to bring the height down safely
- Access for equipment and where clippings can be moved to
- Edging that has been buried or lost its line
- How much cleanup the property needs afterwards
- The volume of clippings, and whether green waste needs removing
- How long the lawn has been left
Because those factors vary so much between properties, we don't publish a universal overgrown-lawn price. We look at the lawn — in person or from your photos — and quote it. See the overgrown lawn mowing service for how those jobs run.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does lawn mowing cost in Melbourne?
- As an indicative guide, small lawns are commonly around $50–$100, medium lawns around $100–$200 or more, and large lawns from $200 depending on the property. These are guide ranges rather than fixed prices — the final figure depends on the lawn's size, condition, access and the work involved.
- How much does it cost to mow a small lawn?
- A small, well-maintained lawn with easy access usually sits in the lower part of the $50–$100 guide range. Tight access, heavy edging or a lawn that's been left to grow can push it higher.
- How much does it cost to mow an overgrown lawn?
- There's no single figure for this. An overgrown lawn is quoted on its actual condition — grass height and density, area, the number of passes needed, cleanup and whether green waste has to be taken away.
- Is regular lawn mowing cheaper than one-off mowing?
- Not automatically. What is true is that a lawn kept on a schedule is generally in a manageable condition each visit, so it doesn't build up into the bigger cleanup job that a long-neglected lawn becomes. Customers on a weekly maintenance plan also receive 10% off for as long as they stay on that plan.
- What affects the price of lawn mowing?
- Lawn size, grass height and density, how long since the last cut, the amount of edging, obstacles and access, terrain, cleanup, green-waste handling and any extra garden work you've asked for.
- Does lawn mowing include edging?
- Yes — basic edging along paths, driveways and garden beds is part of a standard mow, along with line trimming where the mower can't reach.
- Do you remove grass clippings?
- Green waste handling depends on the job. On a regular mow, clippings usually go into your green bin. For cleanups and overgrown lawns there is often more waste than a bin can take, so removal is quoted separately — we'll agree on it with you before we start.
- Do you provide lawn mowing in Berwick?
- Yes. Berwick is one of the suburbs we work in regularly, and it's a short drive from our base in Hallam.
- Do you provide lawn mowing in Harkaway?
- Yes. We mow in Harkaway, though blocks there are often larger — we don't currently run a ride-on mower, so we'll be upfront about whether we're the right fit before quoting.
Where we mow
We work out of Hallam across Melbourne's south-east, including lawn mowing in Berwick, Harkaway, Narre Warren North and Hampton Park. The full list is on our areas we serve page.
